Well done to St Brigid’s and St John’s minor girls on a terrific game last night at Corrigan as both clubs went head to head in the hope of landing the all county minor league title. St Brigid’s flew out of the traps and found themselves a goal and 2 points up within minutes and deservedly so, but that only seemed to waken the johnnies girls who hit back a ferocious pace with a number of very well worked quickfire goals due to the work of forwards Claire Morgan, Katie Connolly, Toni Leigh Finnegan, Rebecca Crummey the pick of the bunch a volley at the back post from Natasha Clarke. As the Johnnies drove themselves in front the St Brigid’s girls regrouped and got a great goal and point just before half time.
The second half started much like the first with St Brigid’s taking a couple very good scores but the talented Johnnies forward line hit back with another couple goals and points to begin to take a commanding lead. The St Brigid’s girls got the heads back up but the midfield of Orla corr and Tierna Bell were magnificent in attack and defence and were box to box the whole game along with half forward Alex Trainor and with the ever dependable and will to win of Siantelle Boyd continually organising and driving them forward alongside Erin Mc Greevy and Olivia Cardwell in half back they were able to stem the attacking tide and whatever did get through was dealt with by the impressive backline figures of Ceara Carleton, Niamh Hamill and Aine Mc Parland with the superb Meadbh Fennell pulling out all the stops in goals, as time edged on the johnnies introduced the experience of Shauna Moyes, Leah Mc Auley, Carol Browne and Rachel Mc Grath to keep the St Brigid’s girls locked out to seal an historic win for the Johnnies girls in there very 1st year in the minor league.
Special mention also to the johnnies girls who were raring to come on when called upon this year Kerri Mc Donagh, Jenna Corry, Jade Mulryne, Aifa Gough, Connlaith Mc Kenna, Clionadh Murray, and the injured and missing of Eireann Boyd, Mia Neill, Niamh Mc Ardle, Clodagh Mc Curdy, Claire Mc Connell.
Well done both sets of girls, mentors and clubs.
