Senior Hurlers unlucky at Dunloy

SHL v Dunloy 13 5 15 001

The Senior Hurlers travelled to Dunloy on Wed night missing a number of regulars due to injury, suspension, exams and work commitments.  Although we left with a five point defeat 0-16 to 0-11 we left with our heads held high after a battling, committed and never say die attitude in the second half.  The tone of the game was set after 4 mins when the referee sent off Ryan McNulty for a nothing challenge, even the Dunloy contingent were bemused!  This put us under immense pressure in the first half and we trailed by 0-9 to 0-2 at half time.  In saying that the defensive performance was first class given the pressure they were under.  Domhnall Moran, Domhnall Ngent and Simon McCrory gave excellent performances throughout the night, ably assisted by Doolies, Cutt and Gerard Carbery with Simon always in control in goals.

The second half started ominously as Dunloy raced into a 0-14 to 0-3 lead within the next 10 minutes, however the lads dug deep and rattled off the next six points with great scores from Michael Bradley, Colm McFall, Domhnall Nugent, Brendan McGibbon (Jnr) and the score of the night from Gerard Carbery from all of 90 yards after a spectacular high catch in the half back line.  We managed to get back to 3 points at one stage with Barry McFall and Jimmy Peoples putting in a great shift around the middle of the park but the extra man was beginning to tell at this stage.  Dunloy pushed on with a couple of scores to end up deserving winners on a scoreline of 0.16 to 0.11.

Next outing for the hurlers is one not to be missed on Wed 27th May in Corrigan against Rossa.  It’s imperative we get as many players back as possible for that one to add a bit of depth and strength to the squad. (Report and photos courtesy of Ronan Heenan)
